Description
MechoNet™ Wireless Daylight Sensor and Controller by MechoShade Home Systems
MSRP - N/A
Shipped Date - 6/15/2016
The unobtrusive and battery-less Wireless Daylight Sensor utilizes an integrated solar-powered photosensor to monitor the light coming through windows and, via EnOcean® RF communication technology, transmits data to a controller to move roller shades effortlessly.
The MechoSystems’ Wireless Daylight Sensor is small, compact, and does not require any batteries for its light energy collection or for the ultra-low-power EnOcean wireless communication protocol system. The sensor and controller seamlessly enable shades within the specified zone to move full up, full down, and to intermediate positions, based on daylight present at the window.
In addition to sensors, the MechoNet Wireless Controller can receive data and/or commands from EnOcean devices (used in other systems) such as batteryless keypads, occupancy sensors, thermostats, etc.
The combination of the Wireless Daylight Sensor and Controller enables a simple automation system to be implemented for effective daylight integration. Roller Shade Automation is easier to install for retrofit applications as cabling is eliminated for the sensors. Designers can utilize daylight integration to preserve views to the outside, manage glare and solar radiation in a space, and comply with codes and standards mandating reductions in building energy consumption (and attendant reduction in greenhouse gases caused by energy usage).
Describe product's design and/or technical innovation - The MechoNet™ Wireless Daylight Sensor and Controller keeps shades up and lowers them automatically by monitoring daylight coming through windows with a battery-free, wireless, solar-powered, unobtrusive and remotely located sensor. Shades stop at intermediate, full-up/down points to stop glare/heat. Moving shades fosters daylight harvesting, contributes to sustainability, and helps meet energy codes. The reliable EnOcean® wireless communications technology platform allows switches, occupancy sensors, etc. designed by others; to work with the controller/shades for a mini IoT (Internet of Things) system.
The system is robust and effective for use in moving shades within defined zones to foster daylight usage. The thresholds for moving the shades and the stopping positions are customizable thereby allowing the integrator total flexibility to incorporate shade automation at a lower cost than previously available.
The battery-free small, easy to hide sensor allows for fast set-up and lowers costs due to the minimal installation effort required. No batteries mean worry-free usage and is environmentally friendly due to no waste from spent batteries.
What sets your product apart from others? - #1
The sensors purpose is to interpret outside brightness levels and sun conditions to position shades for control of solar radiation/heat in the space and manage glare at window for comfort of occupants.
#2
The Sensor works with the MechoNet™ network connected motors and will move shades within the specified zone to full-up, full-down, and three intermediate stop positions.
#3
The EnOcean® wireless communication platform allows for sensor to be placed in window without need for hard-wired connections.
Significance #4
The PV powering of sensor eliminates batteries, insure no annual maintenance of sensor needed, and no AC or DC powering needing, and eliminates battery disposal concerns.
#5
EnOcean platform insures that other manufacturers providing EnOcean capable sensors and switches can work via the Controller to move shades. So, for example, an Occupancy Sensor can also move shades based on vacancy. Or, an EnOcean enabled switch can move shaee even though the daylight sensor has positioned shade based on brightness at window.
#6
The sensor is ideal for small areas such as office suite, tenant improvement, and areas not suitable for whole building automation. This will blend with window, preserve view, and help automate shades for occupant comfort.
#7
The sensor is small and unobtrusive. It blends with mullions and is available in white, Black, and Grey.
What benefits does your product provide? - The MechoSystems Wireless Daylight Sensor and Controller provide a simple, effective, and reliable method to integrate daylight into a space. The ability to automate shades in smaller spaces is now easily done and provides the benefits of natural light for occupants.
Daylight is proven to be the main stimulus for maintaining circadian rhythm, necessary to promote health and wellness, combat Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD), and to elevate mood. All too often, occupants in rooms with manual shades lower them to curtail direct sun and glare but forget to raise them. Instead, they use electrical lighting and do not have benefit of natural light.
Through the use of daylight, energy consumption for electrical lighting is reduced when shades are raised, and solar radiation is reduced when shades automatically are lowered. An automatic system based on light levels outside, as measured at the window does this all the time and the same way, as designed and configured during installation.
